A Change is coming!

Good evening Z-Walk friends and fam,

I have taken it up with my fellow coordinators and it has been decided that there will not be a Zombie Walk this year due to life getting in the way which is ok we all have to focus on ourselves and family from time to time.

This being a family organization we also have to look out for our own. So instead of a zombie walk there will be a series of fund raisers and we are open to suggestions and would be delighted to have volunteers.

There is nothing set up yet but that will come soon enough. The point of these little events is so that we can continue to have our big event in the future and not have to come out of pocket for the majority of the expenses.

Also its a great way to advertise and keep people aware that we are still here not just once a year in October.

So if you have any questions/comments/etc please feel free to drop us a line and let us know whats on your mind.

Thanks everybody!

Oli of the Dead

Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgh uuuuuugh! -translation- "Hello friends, welcome and welcome back!"

Thanks for joining the horde on it's continuing journey. I started this walk with the memories of my dear family friends Jeff Tucker and Bernie Kapololou, they both past away from cancer and I felt that it was very important to honor their memory.

While originally it was thought to be quite unconventional in it's creation and it had never been done before here in Richland it seemed like a good way to raise awareness and have fun doing it. I thought of it while sitting with a couple friends at Sharis. We were discussing the zombie walks held elsewhere and that it was sad that there was no event of the kind here in Richland.

I also wanted to honor my friends and then like a bolt of lightning it struck me! A Zombie Walk for Brain Cancer! It was a way I could incorporate my love of zombies, zombies love of brains, the memory of my dear friends who passed from brain cancer and a way to raise awareness about brain cancer and potentially funds to help somebody out.

Unfortunately by the time I had thought it up it was too late to do anything about it that year, so I set to planning for the next year. What I thought was to be a small gathering of friends and family maybe 20 or so people suddenly spread like the zombie plague itself!

Through Facebook and email and word of mouth the event became a huge success we had a lot of great collaborators and organizers. We ended up with well over 100 people and raised nearly $200! Not bad considering I never even fathomed it could be this popular. It went over so well the City of Richland wanted us to do it again the following year.

Jump to this past year 2012 the year of the "Apocalypse" a perfect setting for our Zombie Walk. I got a lot of great sponsors and this year was even better than the last year we had over 200 people and made over $200. All the money made went to the Chris Elliott Fund for Glyoblastoma Research a support organization based out of Seattle. We worked closely with the CEF and they were happy to have us both years the walk was held.

I think that this brings us up to speed with the walk, we did make up and danced Thriller and shambled from the John Dam Plaza in Richland all the way through Howard Amon Park and to the Community Center there in the park.

So if you've made it this far in my little "about me" I think you might be wondering "who is that man behind the zombie makeup?" Well to tell the truth I am still learning that myself. This event has been my focus and driving goal for the past 2 years.

I love zombies and I love helping those who need help. Cancer has made an impact on my life because of my family and friends. Recently my Grandfather passed away from a very aggressive cancer so the 2012 walk was in his memory.

I am a chef, artist, and entertainer. I love working with people and helping wherever I can. It just so happens that starting a charity event was on my bucket list. I aspire to do great things and help as many people along the way as I can.

I hope that this walk continues until everyone knows about brain cancer (and cancer in general) and until their is a cure.

So that is a little about me and my walk, thanks again for joining us/reading the blog/supporting us however!

Just remember
